As of this moment the Twins lead the Wild Card race. They are 1/2 game over the White Sox and a full game over the Red Sox. With 49 games left in the regular season it’s obvious that the standings as they currently set could change quite a bit. However, if Liriano can come back and Santana and Radke can continue to be good, the wild card is definitely within grasp.
Could it be? Could the Twins really have a slugger on their team? It’s been so long since I’ve seen one that I’m having a hard time believing it.
The home run last night made Morneau the first Twins player to hit 30 homers since 1987 when Kent Hrbek, Gary Gaetti and Tony Brunansky all accomplished the feat. It also helped the Twins win for the first time in Detroit.
The win also gave the three game series to our beloved Twinkies. Kind of surprising when you think about the beat down the Tigers put down a week or so ago when they were in Minneapolis.
I know there’s still quite a bit of season but I think last night firmly entrenched the Twins in the playoff race. Hold on folks it promises to be a wild ride.
