It’s that time again. Tall men that throw a round white ball close to 100 miles per hour, short men that slide on their butys towards square bags of foam and out of shape men that run towards the diamond shaped plate to yell at guys wearing face mask all are heading towards Florida and Arizona for Major League Baseball’s spring training.
This time of year makes me almost giddy. When those precious words (Pitchers and catcher report) are said I know that Spring is around the corner and warm weather is close at hand. I also know that one of the greatest sports is getting ready to start the marathon that is the baseball season.
This year the giddiness is a little tempered though. Usually I have anywhere from two to four fantasy baseball teams that help keep me involved in the daily grind of the MLB season. This year I am thinking about forgoing the fantasy experience though. With the kids, work and life in general I have found that it’s harder and harder to do the needed research to field a competitive team. Does anyone else ever have this problem?
I know that when push comes to shove I will again delve into the exciting life of a fantasy baseball team manager but who knows how involved I will actually be. Who knows, maybe I’ll draft that elusive team that never has injuries and carries the owner to the fantasy championship. A guy can dream, can’t he?
