AaronGleeman.com

In his recent post, Aaron Gleeman admits to being a big Michael Vick fan and says that the “growing sentiment that he is the NFL’s most overrated player is ridiculous”. I love Aaron’s writing. I read him daily. However, I don’t have to agree with him on everything.

Anyway, here was the response I posted on Aaron’s site about Vick.

——————————

I believe Vick is overated and here’s why. He’s a QB not a RB. As a player overall he’s definitely good. However, when you consider he’s a QB he’s below average.

I believe that the reason there’s a “growing sentiment that he is the NFL’s most overrated player” is because you have to compare his skills with others in the same position. He can’t do many of the things required of a QB.

In my mind the best use of Vick would be as a RB/WR/QB combined player. Have someone like Schaub as the real QB (especially since Atlanta wants to go to a more traditional West Coast offense) and put Vick all over the field. Think of Randle El from Pittsburgh but with more moves and speed. The matchup problems would be insane.

I will never be convinced that Vick is a good QB. A fun guy to watch? Yes. A good guy to have in fantasy football? Sometimes. A guy to lead a strong passing attack? Never.

————————

So, what do you think? Is Vick overrated or not? What is your reasoning?

Seattle Mariners : News : Seattle Mariners News

I thought this was kind of interesting. Allen Wirtala is a graduate of MSU (where I graduated). The funny thing is that MSU doesn’t have a baseball team.

“Who is the bullpen catcher, and what is his history? Is he a former or want-to-be player? — Ken E., Puyallup, Wash.

There are two bullpen catchers — Allen Wirtala and Allen Turner. Wirtala, who has been the strength and conditioning coach for the past 11 years, is a graduate of Montana State”

Bio: Coach Joe Vavra

This makes me feel a little better about him. He was a very good hitter when in college. Let’s hope it’s an example of those that can do, those that can’t teach.

Twins to name Vavra hitting coach

Who? Does it concern anyone else that our new hitting coach has no major league experience either as a player or manager? And what exactly makes him qualified to be a hitting coach? I’m all for getting Ullger out of that spot but can’t we get someone with some credentials?

Still alive

I’m still alive (not that anyone reads this to find out this tidbit). I just don’t have a lot of sports related stuff to write about.

The Vikes have started out really poorly but hopefully the win over the Packers is the turning point. Guess we’ll see this weekend.

Looks like the White Sox are going to win the World Series. I have to admit I was pulling for the Astros. I just can’t cheer for the Sox. It would be like rooting for the Cowboys. Never going to happen.

I’ve been reading a lot lately about the XBox. You can do a lot of hacks to make it do quite a few things. I’m hoping that once the Xbox 360 comes out the price of the original will drop so I can get a “play” box. I want something I can hack and not worry if I ruin it. I also want to keep a “pristine” Xbox so I can use it online.

If you are interested in reading about Xbox hacking go to Xbox Scene. They have a ton of info and links to even more.

Speaking of video games, check out Ben Heckendorn. He takes standard consoles (i.e. Atari 2600, original NES, etc.) and converts them into portable units. Lots of very interesting articles and pictures on there.

Here’s a site that I have to admit I check out daily. I just think Overheard in New York is funny for some reason.

For even more funny/disturbing ways to pass the time, check out the King of dot comedy.

Well, that’s it for now. Later.
