Boone Thoughts
Posted by Johnny under Sports thoughts
I was going to write up a thing about the Brett Boone signing, but as usual I was lazy. Fortunately, Aaron Gleeman has posted some good thoughts on the trade. Check out his thoughts.
Did anyone watch the Derby last night? How boring was that? Even though Bobby Abreu set a record for most homers it still was an excruciatingly drawn out event. The only thing that really got me interested was when Joe Morgan and Chris Berman had my hero, Reggie Jackson, sit with them.
Speaking of Berman. Is anyone else getting tired of his antics? Abreu alone hit 24 home runs. How many times does Berman have to say “back, back, back, back . . . it’s GONE!!”? We get it. It’s a home run derby. The ball is flying a long way. That’s the point.
I’m not sure how to make this event more fun. Maybe limiting the number of pitches the batters can take? At one point David Ortiz let 8 pitches go by before he made a swing. I know they want the “perfect pitch” so they can smack it out, but these guys have to remember that people are watching. People who want to see the guy swing, not just stand there.
Anyway, tonights the All-Star game and as the MLB keeps reminding us, this one counts. (Couldn’t they come up with something better? Isn’t this the same lame catch phrase from last year?) Make sure to watch so you can see how Santana and Nathan do.
Later.
